El pasado verano fuimos testigos de cómo la nueva generación del gaming recibían (POR FIN) con los brazos abierto a Linux, no solo con el lanzamiento de Steam OS, sino de sus propias consolas Steam Machines de parte de Valve, pero esta semana, se confirmó la mala nueva.
No habrá consolas para ventas al público hasta en el 2015, Valve confirmó en la siguiente postura en su foro.
Steam Machines Update
We’ve been getting emails from the Steam community asking us how our in-development Steam Machines are coming along. It’s great that you’re excited about it, and we know you appreciate it when we keep you in the loop on stuff like this, so we wanted to give you all a quick update.
We’re now using wireless prototype controllers to conduct live playtests, with everyone from industry professionals to die-hard gamers to casual gamers. It’s generating a ton of useful feedback, and it means we’ll be able to make the controller a lot better. Of course, it’s also keeping us pretty busy making all those improvements. Realistically, we’re now looking at a release window of 2015, not 2014.
Obviously we’re just as eager as you are to get a Steam Machine in your hands. But our number one priority is making sure that when you do, you’ll be getting the best gaming experience possible. We hope you’ll be patient with us while we get there. Until then, we’ll continue to post updates as we have more stories to share.

A pesar que arrancaron el año pasado con versiones de pruebas de las Steam Machines con Steam OS, lo cierto que el feedback que la empresa recibió en torno al control al parecer se ha vuelto el enfoque de Valve, al punto que al parecer, el mismo no es el adecuado con tanto alboroto en torno a que es el “feedback” recibido el que motivó a la decisión.
Lo malo de todo es que Valve tampoco confirmó si sus socios que lanzarían sus propias versiones estarían lanzando algo para este año, pero no debería sorprender que hasta que Valve no tire el suyo propio no veremos nada de terceros.
Así que paciencia para gamers que quieren darle la oportunidad a Linux.
