Sorpresivamente RIM ha anunciado la disponibilidad con licencia libre una plataforma para la creación de juegos que no se limitaría al ambiente de BlackBerry.
En prueba de que Research In Motion quiere ganar una posición en el desarrollo de juegos y más aún, contribuir al Open Source con Game Play, un ambiente de desarrollo totalmente multiplataforma que no solamente se podrá crear juegos para el BlackBerry PlayBook, sino que estará listo para crear también juegos para el MAC OS X, Android (desde 2.3 Gingerbread), iOS (desde 5.1 en adelante [iPhone-iPad-iPod]), Windows 7 y obviamente listo para desarrollo de BlackBerry 10 y Tablet OS 2.0.
